Fractional CTO / CIO
Technology leadership, without the full-time hire.
I help small and mid-sized businesses replace paper, spreadsheets and “the way we’ve always done it” with systems that fit how they actually work.
What I help with
Where I usually come in.
Streamline operations
Map how work really flows today, find the manual steps and the double entry, and fix the process before buying any software.
ERP selection, rollout and migration
Choosing a system, moving off an old one, cleaning and migrating the data, and getting people to actually use it.
A technology plan you can follow
A practical roadmap, vendor and budget decisions, and someone in the room who speaks both business and IT.
How I work
Senior help, sized to what you need.
Part-time and hands-on: a defined project, a few days a month, or a sounding board for the decisions that matter. No large team and no long contract. You work with me directly.
Every one of these projects is a climb. The view from the top is worth it, but it helps to have someone who has made the climb before.
Why I often recommend Odoo
One system instead of ten.
Odoo is an open-source business platform (accounting, inventory, sales, purchasing, CRM, website and more) in one system, instead of a stack of tools glued together. It has been around for twenty years, is used by millions, and isn’t locked to one vendor.
I’ve rolled it out for operations and manufacturing, and I run my own businesses on it. It isn’t right for everyone, and I’ll tell you when it isn’t.
About
Jay Marcotte
I’ve spent 25+ years in information technology, most of it in executive IT roles, including work for private-equity-owned companies moving from paper processes and unwritten knowledge to modern ERP systems.
